About Toride Art Project

Toride Art Project (TAP)started in 1999 and since then the management and the planning has been in the hands of three contributors: Citizens, Toride City Government and Tokyo University of the Arts. TAP supports young artists to develop their works,and provides the opportunities for citizens to get close to art within their daily life. Through these programs, the project has been actively contributing to the city to develop as a cultural place.

Main Programs

  1. Exhibition by Open Competition… an exhibition of artworks and projects in urban spaces chosen by a nationwide competition of proposals.
  2. Open Studio …the introduction of local artists and public opening of studios.
    *1 and 2 are held every other year
  3. Artistic Environment Programs… creation of artistic environment, arts education / outreach program, human resource development etc.

Outline for TAP2008

Dates
From 1st [Sat] - 16th [Sun], November 2008. Open on Weekends including Friday and Holiday.
Place
Toride Ino Apartment Complex and various other places in Toride City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

TAP has been developing various programs in Toride City, and marks the 10th year in 2008. As for the anniversary year, TAP is recognized as a main program of “The Art Festival in Toride”, which takes part in The 23rd National Cultural Festival “IBARAKI 2008”.

In 2008, TAP opens biannual competition for art-work proposals from all over Japan. The selected artists will stay at Toride Ino Apartment Complex to realize their plan and communicate with the residents. Their works will be installed in various places in the city as well as the Apartment area in November.

Along with the main exhibition, TAP conducts annual Kids Program and International Exchange Program with Seok-su Art Project in Korea, who has been in association with TAP for several years. TAP continues to pursue Human Resource Development Program in Conference for creation of “Gateway to the Arts” in Ibaraki Prefecture Southern Area which was started in cooperation with Ibaraki Prefecture last year. In the Conference, TAP has built the partnership with ARCUS Project, and tries to design basic environment towards culture and arts in the southern area of Ibaraki Prefecture using the approaches of fine arts.
