PEN-BIBUN-MAIL-PUBLISHING is Here!

A new “letter magazine” called Tayori-ino is coming your way, filled with little letters that might bring someone joy, comfort, or support.

A new project is starting at Toride Ino Danchi. It is called Penbibun Mail Publishing.
We will deliver a new kind of “letter magazine,” called Tayori-ino, to every home in Ino Danchi. Each issue is a collection of letters and little stories about everyday life in the neighborhood.

We created the contents together with people who live and work in the local community.
The process of making Tayori-ino was also recorded as a comic by Gengematsuri. You can read it here. The comic is only in Japanese, but we hope you can enjoy the pictures!
Inside Tayori-ino, you will find many small and delightful pieces of everyday life: comics about the neighborhood, someone’s diary, photographs of seasonal flowers, and more. You can simply read and enjoy them. But if something makes you want to write back, please do!
You can write your message on the Reply Sheet and send it to us. Your reply may then become part of the next issue of Tayori-ino and be shared with people in the community.

Tayori-ino will be delivered directly to mailboxes only within Ino Danchi. But copies will also be available at Iko-ino + TAPPINO, our community space in Ino Danchi, as well as at several other places around Toride. So even if you do not live in Ino Danchi, you can still pick up a copy.

We hope these letters will travel from person to person, connecting the thoughts, feelings, and everyday lives of people in the community.
Your reply might become something special for someone else to receive. We hope Tayori-ino will grow into a “letter magazine” made together by everyone—where one person’s reply becomes the next person’s tayori: a little message, connection, or something to rely on.

Since 2010, the artist has been working as a partner artist for Art in the Danchi, a project of the Toride Art Project.

Other major projects and exhibitions include Second Flash (The Museum of Fine Arts, Gifu, 2019); Artist in Museum: Atsushi Miyata + Moe Sasa meets Gifu Prefectural Library (2019); Turning Sound into Form, and Form into Sound (Hotaka Community Learning Center “Mirai,” Azumino, Nagano, 2016); and Azamino Children’s Gallery (Yokohama Civic Art Gallery Azamino, 2015).

GENGEMATSURI（KAWAHARA Keita）

Born in 2000. Currently studying Intermedia Art at Tokyo University of the Arts.

The artist creates comics featuring living things such as moles and vines as the main characters. Through these works, the artist explores new ways of telling stories and making comics about beings that exist beyond the reach of human senses and control.
